I see you started blogging recently, I started blogging about a year ago. What I found after a couple months of mostly talking to myself is the fun is mostly in mingling with the other financial bloggers out there, and there are a ton of them. is probably the one I read most consistently, he reached out to me and got me to realize I need to read other blogs and comment if I’m going to have any fun blogging. And he happens to be a really good writer. Everyone I’ve met are all really cool people, most of us just blog for fun.

By the way, I live in southeast Wisconsin and work in Chicago often, if we find a decent group of bloggers nearby, I think it would be fun to have a get together eventually like MrMoneyMustache does in Colorado.

That is great advice. You also mentioned two of my favorite bloggers! I heard very similar advice from Mad Fientist where he basically said the real benefit is when you connect with other bloggers. Everyone keeps each other accountable and it brings a lot more joy to the process.

I’m down for the Chicago idea. I’m guessing others have already thought about this, but if not, we can start out own type of tradition (akin to that CO trip). I’m back and forth over going to FinCon this year, as that is another chance to connect with so many people in one spot.

My comments are in response to both Kyle & Distilled Dollar’s 3/11/2016 comments: I am also a new blogger, at (pardon me if it is not appropriate to give my site name) and can relate to Kyle’s comments about “talking to myself.” I have made a few comments on other personal finance blogs. However, I think I need to make more comments. After reading this article and your comments, as well as that of Stefan Sharpe at I have some ideas on things that I need to do to improve.

By the way Distilled Dollar, I came across your site as a result of you following me on Twitter; thank you. I am now a follower on Twitter and subscriber to your blog. I went back and forth about posting my site name (above), because I’m not sure of the protocol, and I did not see Kyle’s site name. But, I thought Kyle might have just forgotten (I’ve done that before) and I see that you both talked about other bloggers and some sites are even posted. I could go on, but I won’t. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

    Thank you.

Welcome to the blogging world Karlene!

Some sites might have protocols but we haven’t had time to set any up here at DD. 🙂

Typically, folks will enter their url when leaving a comment. There should be another box below the comment box where you can do this. If you look at comments from other articles, you’ll notice the name of the commenter is often a clickable link. That’s the easiest way to include your site’s URL without posting it into the comment section itself. Let me know if that doesn’t help clear up your question!

If you’re curious about more of my tips on blogging, feel free to read any of the articles within the category of blogging on my site.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment!
